FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do you have a question? Click below to see a list of the most frequently asked questions we compiled over the years.
-
What size skip bag do I need?
The size of the skip bag you need depends on how much waste you have. For smaller amounts of waste such as those generated during home clean-ups, renovations, or small construction projects, we suggest hiring our skip bags which come in two sizes (1m3 and 3m3). Check out the sizing on our “Skip Bag Sizes” page for a more detailed overview. These skip bags are convenient, cost-effective, and you can take your time filling them without worrying about any time limits.

What size skip bin do I need?
Not surprisingly, this is the question we are asked the most. The size of the skip you require depends on the amount of waste you have.
The skip bins come in different sizes and configurations. It is recommended that you check out the sizing on our “Skip Bin Sizes” page, which details the dimensions and shows what each size looks like.
Keep in mind that you can only fill a skip bin level with the rim of the bin. If you overload the bin it will not be collected. Ignore the depiction of highly overloaded skip bins on television shows, they cannot be transported on the road like that.
Also, keep in mind how the rubbish or waste will be loaded into the skip bin. If you estimate that your brick bbq takes up 2 cubic metres of space in its built state, it wouldn’t fit in a 2 cubic metre skip bin once you demolish it, unless you load it brick by brick without any gaps! You would actually need a 3 cubic metre skip bin.
A lot of people think that a 4 cubic metre skip bin is 4 metres long, 4 metres wide and 4 metres high, or at least 4 metres long, but this is not the case. Apart from the fact that this wouldn’t fit on the back of a truck, the cubic metre sizing of our skip bins is the capacity it will carry and not an indication of how long the bin is. 4 cubic metres of space is the equivalent of 4 metres long by 1 metre wide and 1 metre high and the actual dimensions of the bin in our range comes in two different configurations as shown on our “Skip Bin Sizes” page, so check that out first.

How long can I keep the skip?
For Skip Bins
In extenuating circumstances we may allow an extra day or two if arranged prior to scheduled collection, otherwise, it is either $15.00 per day after the first seven days or an additional $75.00 per week (we don’t charge for Saturday and Sunday as being extra days).
It is more cost-effective to get all your waste together in one place and then get the skip bin in, rather than having it sit there whilst you rummage through your house picking bits and pieces to throw out. This way will also prevent your neighbours from filling up your skip bin whilst you aren’t looking. You can fill the bin and then get it picked up and out of the way.
For Skip Bags
There is no time limit for collection of skip bags. You can keep the skip bag as long as you need to fill it. For 1m3 skip bags, you can rent them starting at $140, and there is no set time limit for their use. For 3m3 skip bags, you can rent them starting at $410, and a similar unlimited hire time applies.

What is the best location for my skip?
When considering where to put your skip, please consider the following:

- You need to be able to fill the bin or bag.
-
Are there weight limits for skips?
Yes, both skip bins and skip bags have weight limits to ensure safe transportation. You can find the safe working load details for skip bins on the “Skip Bin Sizes” page and for skip bags on the “Skip Bag Sizes” page.
-
What can I put in my skip?
You can hire skip bins and skip bags from Bin Master for mixed waste – most general household waste, construction waste and green waste can be mixed in one single skip with a few exceptions:
- Soil and dirt must always be put in a separate skip bin or skip bag.
- Any materials containing asbestos must not be placed in the skip, please call to discuss our options for asbestos removal.
We are dedicated to being a sustainable business and will recycle as much of your waste as we can.
-
What can't I put in my skip?
We can't accept hazardous waste in a normal skip bin or skip bag. This includes chemicals, food, liquids, tyres or gas bottles. Any materials containing asbestos must be placed in special hazibags that we can supply.
-
What level can I fill my skip to?
All rubbish must be inside the bin or bag and must not flow over the top. This is to ensure safety when in transport and loading onto our truck.
Due to health and safety regulations our drivers are unable to collect bins and bags that are filled above the top.

How It Works?
For domestic service, we price each of our skip bins individually based on the type of waste and materials that you are going to place in the bin. The bin pricing will be determined by the categories that your waste falls into (you can mix categories).
